he great philosophers of ancient Greece claimed that music is the most noble of arts. One need not understand its context in order to enjoy it, they argued. This characteristic made music a source of attraction, crossing borders and boundaries. However, an examination of the composer's circumstances, his era of activity, his hardships and deliberations, can guide the listener through the route he took on his way to the completion of a masterpiece, as well as clarify the ideas he attempted to portray through the piece and thus make the enjoyment of music more profound and complete.
Lecture series "A Note in Time" elaborates on the lives of composers, their masterpieces and the circumstances that affected their writing, while examining the historical; cultural and social aspects of the era. During the lecture series we will examine the main musical forms, the development of the musical instruments and the eminent performers.
